Building financial confidence in London's youth since 2014
sparse-canyon began with a simple observation: young people were leaving education without basic financial skills. Parents wanted to teach their children about money but often didn't know where to start or felt uncomfortable with the topic.
Founded in 2014 by former teacher and financial educator Rebecca Thompson, we've grown from small weekend workshops in community centres to a comprehensive education programme serving families across London.
What hasn't changed is our commitment to making financial literacy accessible, engaging, and immediately useful for young learners.
We exist to equip children and teenagers with practical money skills they can use throughout their lives. Financial literacy shouldn't be a privilege available only to those whose parents work in finance.
Every young person deserves to understand how money works, how to make informed financial decisions, and how to build a secure future.
Our programmes demystify finance, removing intimidation and replacing it with confidence. We celebrate questions, encourage curiosity, and create safe spaces to make mistakes and learn from them.
Financial education should connect to real life. We focus on skills students will use immediately, not abstract concepts they might need decades from now.
Money anxiety often stems from fear of looking foolish. Our sessions welcome all questions, no matter how basic they might seem.
London's diversity is its strength. We respect different cultural perspectives on money while teaching universal financial principles.
A six-year-old and a sixteen-year-old need different approaches. We tailor content, language, and activities to developmental stages.
We're not replacing parents; we're supporting them. Financial education works best when reinforced at home through family conversations.
Our teaching approaches draw from educational research, behavioral economics, and years of classroom testing.
Every instructor combines financial expertise with teaching experience. We hire people who genuinely enjoy working with young learners and can explain complex topics simply.

Over twelve years, we've seen the difference financial literacy makes. Students who once avoided money conversations now confidently discuss budgets with their parents. Teenagers open savings accounts and track their spending. University students arrive on campus knowing how to manage their student loans.
These aren't just skills; they're life-changing capabilities that reduce stress, prevent debt, and create opportunities.
